2009 International Youth Day Focuses on Challenge of Sustainability

The theme for International Youth Day this year is "Sustainability: Our Challenge. Our Future." International Youth Day is held on August 12 every year. It was endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999 to promote awareness of the World Programme of Action for Youth (WPAY), a policy framework and practical guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people around the world.

No task is more urgent than providing hope to the 100 million young people between the ages of 15 and 29 in the Middle East.  If we provide them with the opportunity to lead constructive lives, they will build an exciting area of prosperity, stability and hope.  If they are frustrated and are unable to find work and build their families, there will be unrest, dissension and very possibly violence.
